ROBERT H. WHINERY- 1918 - 2009

It is with great sadness that the ACSAA reports the passing of Robert H. Whinery on December 10th  in the Los Osos, California  area at 91 years of age.   Bob was the ACS/Lincoln School Superintendent for 9 years during the period 1955-1964.  He spearheaded the fundraising drive that build the new elementary school and gymnasium auditorium that allowed the high school to be relocated to the La Lucila campus in 1962.  Bob lived in South America for 18 years,  first teaching in the Sao Paulo, Brazil area in 1946 before relocating to Argentina.   Bob is survived by his wife Rosemarie and stepchildren. Rosemarie suffered a stroke in 2008 has been in a convalescent home since then.   I had the opportunity to visit Bob and Rosemarie a number of times at their home over the past 15 years,  including my last visit in July on my way back from Oregon.  An interesting biography of his life "My Life Story" which Bob prepared a few years ago can be viewed here.    Bob was a Guest of Honor at the ACSAA Reunion 1995 in Alexandria, VA.  A memorial service was held in the Los Osos,  CA area shortly after his passing.
